Otatea acuminata aztecorum
(Mexican Weeping Bamboo)
Otatea acuminata aztecorum, common name: Mexican Weeping Bamboo, is a beautiful, feathery specimen with long narrow leaves that are produced in great abundance, causing them to catch the wind and flow back and forth like a billowy cloud providing a wonderful display. This one looks great in any garden as long as it has enough space to perform. Maximum height: 20 ft. Maximum culm diameter: 1 1/2" Minimum temperature: 29°F Minimum USDA hardiness zone 9A. I love this bamboo because it's so different from all the others. I first saw it at Leu Gardens in Orlando, but I couldn't find it to purchase except once when it was way out of my price range. A few years ago a friend in California sent me a small division that has since grown rapidly into a very impressive clump.
